Q: In a nutshell, tell us what you do.
A: As of now I run the Ralph Lauren Black Label shop, but I’m at the crossroad of a career change and new opportunity. I am trying to really tap in what my purpose is. I ultimately just want to be fulfilled in whatever it is. Everyone has a God given talent that has to be shared with the world- that is the quest that I am on right now. My problem is I have a love for so many thing, its hard for me to focus on one.
Q: Who inspired you to pursue your profession, and why?
A: Honestly my family inspires me in everything I do. I just want to be able to make them proud. They have supported me every step of the way and I just want to repay them back in every which way possible. My family has worked too hard me for me to settle. So when I feel frustrated or want to “throw in the towel” I think of them and how they never gave up.
Q: What item in your closet do you wear the most?
A: ANYTHING BLACK! No really I love black. To me it’s such a sexy, sophisticated color. And not mention if you can’t find anything to wear, that’s always the best option. Add a pop of color to the lip and your good to go-wherever that may be.
Q: What's one thing that always makes you feel beautiful?
A: I have an obsession with perfumes. I have over 30 bottles of perfumes. Smelling good makes me feel good/beautiful. I dictate what perfume I wear that day depending on my mood.
Q: What’s currently on your nightstand?
A: The 2 most important things I use daily are by my bed. My life journal–which some call a diary. I write everything in there, it’s become therapy for me. And my 365-day devotional book that gives daily affirmations on how God is always with you. Everyday is a different message and then it redirects what story in the bible it got it from.
Q: What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
A: I would consider myself someone who is very outspoken, and I definitely wear my heart on my sleeve. But one thing that I’ve never shared with friends or colleagues is, in 2011, I was diagnosed with Lupus; an autoimmune disease, the body attacks your own tissue and/or organs. There are many different types.
You can be talking to someone everyday and not know what they are going through internally. Dealing with this, physically and emotionally, has made me so much more aware of everyone and their own battles, and to never judge someone from their exterior because you don’t know what they are going through internally.
The type of lupus that I have affects my skin. One of the first symptoms I got was hair loss. I lost almost all of my hair. It took a long time for me to get back to me, and feel secure and confident in who I am because of this. But with the support and unconditional love from my family and close friends, and my relationship that I have built with God over the years—I am here, standing tall! In the beginning I became depressed and asked God, “why me?” But now, I know that it’s just apart of my story.
Lupus doesn’t define who I am. Ironically, the one thing that brought me down to my lowest is the very thing that forced me to build myself right back up. I am a stronger person because of it. And I don’t take any of it for granted.
